More than 1,800 prisoners escape from prison in Nigeria
The banned indigenous peoples of Biafran separatist group is behind the attack, but a spokesman for the group denies any involvement.
“The Owerri Detention Center in Imo State was attacked by unknown armed men who forcibly released a total of 1,844 prisoners.
The assault on the prison took place at about 3 am. The intruders blew up the administrative block of the prison and entered its territory.
